At 15:00 Oct.31, 2011, 108 delegates from PV enterprises, industry organizations and scientific institutes in Asia including Singapore, Malaysia, India, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan gathered at Sands Expo and Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. After two years and eight months' preparation, the long-anticipated Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association (APVIA) holds the APVIA 1st Council Meeting & 1st Election Meeting of APVIA Presidium Members as scheduled.
The Meeting adopted the Articles of APVIA, affirmed its mission, goals, organizational structure, and target of encouraging technological and economic information exchange, strengthening its members' connection with governments and societies in Asian countries, accelerating the progress in upgrading and popularization of technology, promoting industry economy, and providing services to members.
Elections generated the Members of first Steering Committee, Academic Committee, and Executive Committee, and the Secretary General. Specifically, Mr. Edwin Khew, Chairman, Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) are elected as Chairman of Steering Committee;;Prof. Martin Green, Executive Research Director, ARC Photovoltaics Centre of Excellence at the University of New South Wales in Australia, as Chairman of Academic Committee; 12 PV companies including Suntech, GCL, OCI, are elected as Chairman Members of Executive Committee.

As the biggest exhibition of Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW), APVIA (2011) PV ASIA PACIFIC EXPO took place from 1 November to 4 November 2011 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
The exhibition with a space of 8,200 sq. meters accommodated global exhibitors from all aspects of photovoltaic technology and manufacturing, ranging from equipment devices, materials, processes, manufacturing, integration, to emerging photovoltaic technologies and applications. It gathered leading photovoltaic companies such as Suntech, REC, Yingli, GCL, JA Solar, Tokyo Electron, RENE, SCHMID, Centrotherm, Phoenix Solar, Conergy, Heraeus, Astronergy, etc.

Dr. Zhengrong Shi who was newly elected as first Chief Chairman of APVIA congratulated the Launch of APVIA and the Opening of APVIA (2011) PV ASIA PACIFIC EXPO on behalf of 708 members of the association. He said, "The establishment of APVIA marks the rapid development of Asian PV industry in recent 10 years, marks the rise of solar application in the Asian market, and marks the PV generation has already become the strategic option for the Asian energy resolution."
Mr. Yishyan Lee, the Minister of Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore, made an address on behalf of the government. He said:” With our joint effort, the first PV ASIA PACIFIC EXPO opened today, as a gift to the Asian PV companies. This Expo is to make the best worth expecting platform and competitive exhibition in the south Asia, to lead PV companies to enter the emerging and rapidly growing south Asian markets.”

During PV ASIA PACIFIC EXPO 2011, Solar Leaders Summit and PV Asia Pacific Conference were held at the same time. Dr Dan Arvizu from National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), USA; Prof Martin Green from University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia; Prof Joachim Luther from Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS); Prof Eicke Weber from Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), Germany; Prof Wim Sinke from Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands Solar Energy(ECN); Prof Andrew Blakers from Australian National University (ANU), and many other top-class professors in PV field all delivered wonderful keynote speeches.
PV Asia Pacific Conference consisted of 8 sessions, including National Programmes, PV Systems, PV Cells, PV Materials, PV Manufacturing, PV Modules, Power Grids and PV Variability. Oral presentation, panel discussion, media interview, coffee/tea break, and networking reception were interwoven in the conference. With a relaxed and active atmosphere, the conference attracted a large audience.
